We use the term LGBTQIAP a lot withing the Rainbowpirates, therefore, here’s an explanation of what it means for us.

What we mean with LGBTQIAP is:
Where Bi*, Inter* and A* stands for both the sexuality and the gender identity (i.e. Asexual/Agender).

A more common expression, internationally, is LGBT, which stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender. In Sweden HBTQ is a common expression which stands for Homosexual, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer but the equivilant for LGBT (HBT) is still being used by many, especially in politics.
With internet, more people have been able to talk to others with the same ideas and experiences and more groups of people within the rainbow community have been discovered who share the same experience of their own gender identity and/or sexuality. This has led to the need of more terms to identify with that can recognize these groups of people and their expreriences of their identity. For a more including term rather than en excluding one, it’s important to keep it alive, up to date and evolve it as needed.
In everyday speech, LGBT is still used even by those who use LGBTQIAP in text because it’s much shorter and easier to say in the situations everybody know what the person is refering to.

The groups of people who are not included in that term yet is polyamorous and BDSMF, why we also use the term sexual minoroties and standard deviating identities, or the rainbow which is an umbrella concept that includes it all.
The most important thing is that we all agree on which rights we fight for and strive to include as many as possible in our activism disregarding of which terms we use.
